Beef Bangers & Mash
Comfort food done right. Beef sausages, silky olive oil mash and rich onion gravy. No dairy.
Ingredients
Sausages
- •8 beef sausages (or chicken — check label for no pork)
Mash (Dairy-Free)
- •1kg potatoes, peeled and quartered
- •3 tbsp olive oil (instead of butter)
- •100ml warm oat milk or almond milk
- •Salt and white pepper
Onion Gravy
- •2 large onions, thinly sliced
- •2 tbsp olive oil
- •1 tsp brown sugar
- •1 tbsp flour
- •400ml beef stock
- •1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- •Salt and pepper
Method
Start onion gravy: cook sliced onions in olive oil on low heat 20 minutes until deeply caramelised. Add sugar and stir.
Add flour to onions and stir 1 minute. Add beef stock and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer 10 minutes until thickened.
Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain well.
Mash potatoes with olive oil and warm milk. Season well. The olive oil gives great richness.
Cook sausages in a pan or oven (200°C for 20 minutes) until browned and cooked through.
Serve sausages on top of mash with gravy poured over.
